Trainee Youthworker – Christian Outreach – Part of SWYM

The Trainee Youthworker will join the illuminateStroud team, which works to inspire and equip Christian young people as culture changers in their schools and communities, and enable all young people to have opportunities to explore the Gospel and Christian faith in relevant and accessible ways. They act as a link between young people and local churches.

illuminateStroud currently works with Churches Together in Stroud and Dursley, delivering discipleship groups, outreach, schoolswork, and leadership development opportunities for young people.

The Trainees Youthworker will experience a variety of different youth work settings and opportunities, and work with leaders and young people from different churches, backgrounds and theologies.

Help deliver the vision of illuminate – inspiring and equipping Christian young people as culture changers in their schools and communities.

Ensure young people have opportunities to explore the Gospel and Christian faith in relevant and accessible ways

Joining the leadership teams of, Engine Room – discipleship group, Fusion Cafe – youth led outreach, lunchtime secondary schools groups, Prayer Spaces in Schools, Delivering sessions in RE lessons, School Assemblies, Youth Worship Nights, Residentials, Church Ministry (with Dursley Tabernacle), Open Access youthwork (with The Door’s Community Youthworkers)

Sessional Youthworker

£10.24 – 10.92 per hour

The Door is a Christian youth charity, established in 1991 in Stroud, Gloucestershire for the benefit of all young people aged 11 to 25 and their families.  It’s a place where every young person and their parents can feel safe, happy and valued, with the best possible opportunity to reach their potential. 

We are currently looking for Sessional Youthworkers to join our team and assist our Community Youthworkers in running both indoor youthwork sessions and detached / street-based youthwork across Southern Gloucestershire.  Duties include contributing to the planning and delivery of our comprehensive needs-based youthwork programme.  Full training is provided, as is ongoing support and commitment to your personal growth and development in the role.

Experience of working with young people in a youthwork setting or similar will be an advantage, along with an awareness of the issues facing young people today. While experience is preferred we are very keen to hear from applicants who are committed, passionate and dedicated to being an outstanding role model, eager to engage and support young people.

You will need to be available for approximately three late afternoon and evening sessions per week including school term times (more work may be available) and ideally have your own transport to enable access to our locations across Southern Gloucestershire.
