Together We Can Stay Connected
£7.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. In a world of Instagram influencers and TikTok trends the team at The Door recognise the importance of being a part of a young person’s online community as well as their physical one. One of our key principles is to provide young people with a positive role model and we believe this is just as vital online as it is in person. “Being on YouTube and other platforms enables us to keep our faces out there, to stay connected and maintain interaction with young people even when we don’t see them every day. This has been especially important for young people who have felt isolated and disconnected during lockdown. Social media means we can stay in touch” (Willow, Community Youthworker) With a variety of video styles from crazy youthwork challenges to calmer weekly reflections #TheDoorAtFour is keeping young people connected with their youthworkers. (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Train Volunteers
£100.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. Young people and parents that access mentoring often struggle with depression, anxiety and stress. Brought on as they face up to pressures from home, school or work, their peers, family and wider society. Often they resort to negative coping strategies such as disruptive or addictive behaviour, isolation or self-harm. “The most important thing to offer someone, is the opportunity to be listened to, somewhere they feel safe. The first thing we do when we meet a young person is to give them hope. Then we can assess where they are at in their life and help them look for steps forward” (Alistair, The Door’s Mentoring Team Leader) A volunteer mentor meets one to one with their mentee for about an hour a week . Offering support, guidance and most importantly listening to what their mentee has to say. “Mentoring creates friendships that turn people’s lives around.” (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Give Parents New Skills
£50.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. Teenagers don’t come with an instruction manual, from fighting at school to a teenager’s defiance, or a regular homework routine. Parents have plenty to contend with on a day to day basis. There are no hard-and-fast rules for parenting but it is surprising how many problems have very simple solutions. “We get launched into parenthood with the expectation that we know what we are doing and the whole thing’s a given. But growing a small human is tricky, and helping them grow themselves into bigger humans can be a serious challenge.” (Shona, Family Support Team Leader) The Triple P Course we deliver at The Door is specifically designed for parents of teenagers. Groups work through the nine week course including teaching, discussion and phone support. “The course gives parents the practical tools and easy to understand strategies that make parenting a bit less ‘trial and error’. ” (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Listen To Young People
£5.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. For the young people supported by our Mentoring Gateway service the reassurance of a familiar voice on the other end of the phone is what they need to stay mentally healthy. The comfort of having a safe space where they can talk to someone who they trust about their worries and struggles is invaluable. “It’s important to give young people these opportunities to share their thoughts and be listened to. The phone calls give them a voice and a place to be heard when so often they feel ignored or invisible elsewhere” (Mike Jones, Mentor) The Mentoring Gateway offers young people a 15 minute phone or video call each week with a trained mentor. For many this is a stepping stone towards further support. (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Bring Parents Together
£15.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. Offering parents a safe space to be listened to without an agenda. Somewhere to belong where they can share their ideas and burdens with parents in the same position as them. “We get launched into parenthood with the expectation that we know what we are doing and the whole thing’s a given. But growing a small human is tricky, and helping them grow themselves into bigger humans can be a serious challenge.” (Shona, Family Support Team Leader) Groups meet once a month to catch up, share their struggles and support each other. For some it is the only opportunity they get during the month to take a step out of their busy and often complicated lives to take time for themselves. “It’s not just about helping people become better parents, we aim to help people reach their full potential in all aspects of their life helping them find their identity again, reminding them that they aren’t just ‘mum’ or ‘dad’.” (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Bring Young People Hope
£10.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. For young people the uncertainty around their futures plays a big part in their mental health and well-being. They often find themselves at cross-roads with lots of choices to make: which subjects to study, which friends to make or what job they want? And even once they have made these choices they worry that they have made the wrong ones. “In a disruptive life our aim is to provide young people with an anchor point they can hold onto as they take the time to adjust to the challenges and changes that life throws at them (Alistair, Intensive Support Team Leader) The Door’s mentoring service matches young people with a trained volunteer mentor for 1:1 emotional support. Meeting once a week in a place that suits them whether over a coffee or a kick about. Together they build an action plan of positive steps to take forwards week by week. (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Help Keep Young People Safe
£20.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. Youthwork doesn’t always happen in a youth centre. We recognise that for some young people a youth club can be a scary and imposing place. So to ensure that all young people can access services and support we endeavour to meet them where they are. “It’s a privilege to be invited into a young person’s space, whether it’s their patch of a park, the wall outside their school or the streets of their town.” (Kathleen, Youthworker) Our teams go out and about on ‘detached’ youthwork patrols, signposting to our services, chatting to young people and building rapport with local stakeholders. “By working alongside local PCSO’s we are helping keep young people safe when they are out and about in their communities.” (This gift includes a downloadable greetings card and certificate which can be printed at home or sent by email to the recipient.)

Together We Can Empower Mums
£10.00Charity Gift - Make a donation yourself or on behalf of someone else and help The Door bring hope to families all year round. All families, no matter their shape or size can be affected by social pressures, relationship breakdowns and communication difficulties. When family members are suffering and turn to addictive, or risk-taking behaviour and mental health issues, being a parent can be tough. “We get launched into parenthood with the expectation that we know what we are doing and the whole thing’s a given. But growing a small human is tricky, and helping them grow themselves into bigger humans can be a serious challenge.” (Shona, Family Support Team Leader) Volunteer mentors meet with parents for an hour a week to provide them with a safe space to have their voice heard and unpick what’s going on.
